In the new issue of Life & Style magazine, Taylor Armstrong offers some advice to Rihanna and Chris Brown.

By Ree Hines

“Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Taylor Armstrong is no stranger to the topic of domestic violence. She’s discussed the alleged abuse she suffered at the hands of her late husband, Russell Armstrong, on her reality show. She’s even written about it in her book, “Hiding from Reality.” Now she hopes her experience might lead others to listen to her advice and warnings — specifically, a couple of very famous “others.”

In a new interview with Life & Style Weekly, Armstrong discussed singer Rihanna’s recent choice to work with ex-boyfriend Chris Brown three years after he attacked her, and how she thinks the former couple should handle things now.

“I hope they’ll make a statement about what transpired over the past three years that makes it safe for them to be around each other now,” Armstrong said. “If someone has slapped you, shoved you or pushed you, things will always escalate. They don’t get better — they get worse — unless some type of intervention is done via therapy or separation.”

And Armstrong believes Brown, in particular, needs to “be a man” and speak up about that now.

“He needs to come out and say, ‘I did something really wrong, and let me tell you what I’ve done since then to be a better person,” she insisted. “This is a real opportunity for him to step up and be a man.”

Do you think Armstrong is in a position to offer advice to Brown and Rihanna? Do you think they’ll listen? Share your thoughts on our Facebook page.

Finding a reasonable accommodation is a two-way street. Both the employer and the disabled employee are supposed to engage in the ADA?s interactive accommodations process. The idea: Working together, the two can reach a workable accommodation that best suits both business needs and the employee?s particular disability.

But part of that interactive process includes determining whether the employee is, in fact, disabled. If he?s not, the process need go no further.

That?s why the process should start with gathering facts from the em??ployee and his doctors so you can assess the employee?s condition and determine if it impairs a major life function such as walking, talking, seeing, breathing and caring for oneself.

The report may surprise you. While an employee may think of his condition as disabling, medical specialists may not. If the doctors don?t think the employee?s condition impairs a major life function, you needn?t go further. The employee isn?t covered by the ADA because he?s not disabled.

Recent case: Rommel Griffin worked for UPS for 28 years, mostly as a supervisor on the 2 to 10 p.m. shift. Griffin has diabetes, which requires him to eat carefully while managing his insulin levels.

Griffin took some time off for stress-related ailments. When he returned, he was informed that his shift would change to the overnight shift. He pro??tested, claiming that working overnight would aggravate his diabetes. He wanted to switch to the day shift.

UPS immediately began the reasonable accommodations process by re??questing information from Griffin?s doctors. At that point, all UPS had was a note from his behavioral health doctor suggesting that Griffin ease back into full-time work by just working part time for the first three weeks.

Griffin?s doctor did complete a medical form suggesting he could best manage his illness on the day shift. But the doctor had checked ?No? on a question about whether Griffin?s condition substantially limited a major life activity other than working.

HR then informed Griffin that, based on his own doctor?s medical report, he was not disabled and thus not entitled to reasonable accommodations. He immediately submitted his retirement notice.

Then Griffin filed a failure-to-accommodate lawsuit.

UPS argued that Griffin had abandoned the reasonable accommodations process. He could have provided more information on how his condition substantially limited major life functions, but he chose instead to retire.

The court agreed that UPS had met its obligations and dismissed Grif??fin?s case. (Griffin v. United Par??cel Serv??ice, No. 10-30854, 5th Cir., 2011)

Remember: Medical conditions can change over time. Just because an employee?s condition wasn?t initially severe enough to substantially impair a major life function doesn?t mean it might not become disabling later. With????????in reasonable limits, handle subsequent accommodation requests by asking for updated medical information.

Also remember that the obligation to accommodate is continual. If needs change, so may the accommodation.

TULSA, Okla. ? Rick Santorum stirs his ever-growing crowds when he promises to right a country awash in “immoral debt” and to replace an administration he argues has “callousness toward life and family and faith.”

Of the GOP presidential hopefuls, Santorum is by far the most public and emphatic about his faith, drawing on his Catholicism and deeply held views on social issues as the foundation of his message. It serves to solidify his standing among religiously motivated voters ? and subtly remind them of lingering reservations of opponent Mitt Romney’s spiritual background.

The former Pennsylvania senator is sure to find a receptive audience Friday in Washington, when he addresses the Conservative Political Action Committee’s annual gathering. But those remarks could sound a lot like Santorum’s speeches of late, particularly those delivered in a two-day visit to Bible Belt states of Texas and Oklahoma.

When the GOP field was at its fullest, several candidates were fighting to be the favorite of religious conservative voters. Now, Santorum is moving to consolidate that wing of the party, which could make him a force in places like Alabama, Kansas, Oklahoma and others on the upcoming primary calendar.

His Southern swing, which ended Thursday with a stop at Oral Roberts University, followed a stunning three-state sweep Tuesday in Colorado, Minnesota and Missouri powered in part by his support among evangelical voters.

At the Christian liberal arts college, Santorum said his GOP competitors don’t seem “particularly comfortable” talking about faith issues like he does.

He welcomed questions about his unbending views against abortion and gay marriage, using the latter to blast a federal appeals court ruling striking down California’s voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage. He lashed out repeatedly at the Obama administration for a new rule requiring religious schools and hospitals to provide insurance coverage for birth control to their employees.

And Santorum offered a window into his religious underpinnings when a self-identified Democrat asked how his Catholic roots and his opposition to President Barack Obama’s signature health insurance law were compatible given Pope Benedict XVI’s view that health care is a human right.

“I believe that you have an obligation to approach every issue in public life as I do from the standpoint of both faith and reason. My conscience was formed as a result of my life experience primarily through faith,” Santorum answered. “I bring that to the table. Yes, that’s who I am.”

He added: “I have an obligation not to just look at things that way but also to bring reason. I always think if your faith is true and your reason is right you’ll end up at the same place.”

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is also Catholic, but social issues aren’t as integral to his campaign. Texas Rep. Ron Paul, a Baptist, mentions religion in passing as a way to make a point about liberty.

Worries about Romney’s Mormonism persist in some segments of the GOP even if they are less pronounced than in his 2008 bid. During that stunted campaign he delivered a major address intended to soothe concerns about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Voters showing up at Santorum events say his willingness to make faith central to his campaign make him more attractive.

“His values are my values,” said Valerie Benton, a retired teacher from Edmond, Okla. “It’s not like he’s forcing his beliefs on anybody.”

Such empathy shows through when Santorum employs what has become a favorite rhetorical device. He fondly quotes the Declaration of Independence to stress America was a nation founded on faith and its people are “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights.” He lowers his own voice when he gets to “Creator” and his crowds fill it in with gusto.

Santorum scoffs at suggestions that his focus should be elsewhere in a race driven by economic issues. “Strong families and building a strong family unit is good for the economy,” he’ll say.

As the campaign moves on, Santorum shows no signs of altering his message. His first stop after his three-state sweep was a gathering of Texas pastors. They laid their hands on the candidate to pray for his future success and for the continued health of his youngest daughter, who was temporarily hospitalized for a respiratory illness a couple weeks ago.

Santorum told the pastors that he wasn’t running to be pastor in chief, but he suggested that religion needed to play a bigger role in public life.

“You guys could do a little better than you are right now,” Santorum told the pastors.

They erupted in laughter.

Maybe by now you have heard the buzz about EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) but are not really sure what it is or what it?s used for. Emotional Freedom Technique is a simple, effective and powerful modality that is changing lives! It entails tapping on acupuncture meridian endpoints while experiencing or remembering a negative situation.

Basically, the premise of EFT is that all negative symptoms in our body, whether physical or emotional stem from unresolved emotional issues that are carried in our bodies? electrical and nervous systems. Until we clear them out, they will cause unpleasant manifestations and can even prevent us from fully living the life we deserve. By tapping on the specific points while in the midst of, or remembering an event, one is clearing out the residual negative effects of the original trauma and the accompanying emotional and physical manifestations disappear.

Imagine the benefits of acupuncture without the needles and imagine learning how to use this powerful tool yourself.

EFT is the brainchild of Gary Craig, a Stanford engineer who modified Dr. Roger Callahan?s Thought Field Therapy. Craig explains that each issue is like a table top that is held in place by the legs of the table. As a trained practitioner taps on your present symptoms/condition and delves further to get to the root issue with intuition and questioning, specific events that constitute the legs of the table are neutralized. When a few of the legs are cleared, the entire table top collapses and the person experiences a sense of well-being, freedom and peace.

So what can EFT be used for? Over the years, trained practitioners have been getting curious, creative and bold, and have attempted EFT on just about anything and everything.

The range includes negative emotions from anxiety to anger, physical symptoms like headaches or pain of any sort, allergies, relationship issues, sports performance enhancement, improved test scores and school performance, confidence, weight management, cravings and the like. You name it, tapping can usually help it! It is so powerful and effective that the word is spreading rapidly and great success is being achieved in surprising new arenas.

EFT can also be used to implant positive suggestions into your subconscious and is effective in boosting self-esteem and replacing self-limiting beliefs with new empowering ones. It?s effective in fostering forgiveness and releasing long-standing resentments that are usually detrimental to the one harboring them.

The workplace is another highly effective arena for the use of EFT. When employees are free of nagging physical symptoms and illnesses, they are happier and more productive in their work. Fostering camaraderie and good relationships between coworkers also leads to higher profits for businesses. Tapping both individually or in groups is very effective. Those reluctant to be the focus of attention or who are unaware of any negativity in their life, can tap along for someone else and reap the rewards through what is known in the field as ?borrowing benefits.?

Did you ever stop to imagine what your life could and would be like if you didn?t have that nagging doubt about your ability to succeed? What about feeling hindered by a migraine or a fear of public speaking? Have you kept yourself from looking for a great relationship because your body doesn?t look the way you want it to?

Do you have trouble getting motivated or sticking to a plan to achieve your goals? Many of us sabotage our dreams without really knowing why, and look to blame the ?symptoms? when instead there is a root emotional block that is deeply ingrained in us. Removing it through tapping and learning how to make a paradigm shift are the keys to empowerment and choosing the life you want. The best laid intentions are only intentions until we find out what stands in the way of them coming to fruition.

Working with an EFT practitioner can be the first step towards living the life you truly desire. Instead of continuing in the same daily routine and learning to live with or accept the ailments that bother you, know that there is another way. Know that empowerment, joy and ease of living is your birthright and success can be yours.

You can have a healthy body without deprivation of your favorite foods. Relationships can be harmonious and old wounds healed. Allergies and back pain don?t have to be part of your daily existence. Uncomfortable feelings around money, success and the good life can be neutralized. Depression and anger can easily be discharged within minutes, freeing you up to attract wonderful things into your life.

EFT is a powerful tool to guide you to the joyful prosperous life you deserve.

People, I know that in America it has become natural to judge everyone who disagrees with you as a “racist,” but please consider the following:

1. Muslim is NOT a race… it is an Arabic term that refers to a person of ANY race who follows the Islamic RELIGION. The term racism does NOT apply.

2. This is America. Lowes is free to spend its money where it pleases. These protesters may not like the decision of the Lowes executives to pull their advertising spots, but they are NOT owed an apology or anything else. In the same token, the countless corporations who decided not to advertise during the airing of that show from the beginning, also do not owe them an apology. This is ridiculous. The spots where the Lowes ads WERE going to air will be (or already have been) filled in by other companies.

3. The show will either resonate with the American public, or it wont. It is likely that most Americans won’t watch it anyway (lack of time, conflicting TV schedules with other favorite programs, not interested in/being offended by the subject matter, etc.). Yes, not being interested in/being offended by the subject matter is still a valid reason not to watch a program, and it is also a valid reason not to spend millions of dollars to sponsor it. I am sure there are plenty of Muslim-owned companies in this country who would NEVER think of sponsoring “Sister Wives.” It’s just part of life, and part of the business world. These protesters need to just learn to deal with it. Welcome to real life.

4. This is America. If one is going to create a reality show and try to get rich and famous, one has a right to TRY their best. One does NOT have the right to success or the right to the advertisers/sponsors of their choice–sponsors who either may not be interested in a specific show, or who may have reservations about its content. Sorry… that’s LIFE, and sometimes LIFE is the best “reality show” of all.
