Madonna does not want us to review her, but to review her movie, ?W.E.? It?s not easy. In Madonna?s world, everything is about her. You want to call the movie, her fantasy about the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, ?M.E.? Up here in Toronto, the screening and premiere of the film have caused a lot of agita. First, few people showed up for the press screening. It was very odd. Had the bad press from Venice really turned people off? Or was it that the movie had been pre-screened for the Canadian press? There?s no way of knowing. Then the big movie premiere last night: Madonna brings only the two female leads. The men are nowhere to be found because apparently she didn?t get along with them. She made some nice remarks, but forgets to mention the film company that has brought her here. On the other hand, she doesn?t seem perturbed that one of her star actresses, Andrea Riseborough, shines from the stage of Roy Thomson Hall like a real Hollywood legend in a glittery black and silver Dolce and Gabbana dress. And there?s this whole history thing: is ?W.E.? supposed to be accurate? Or Madonna?s interpretation of history? I?ve spent the whole day listening to different rationalizations. ?W.E.? is like a gauzy ?Wonder Years? version of the story of ?the greatest romance in history.? Anchorage is shivering through one of its coldest January’s on record, while in Fairbanks, folks preparing for a sled dog race were being tested by temperatures nearly 50 degrees below zero. Farther inland, Fort Yukon has ranged from minus 50 to minus 62 degrees over the last three days, getting close to its record of minus 78. Anchorage’s average temperature for January has been 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit, the Alaska Daily News reported. That’s well below its average of?15 degrees, and only three other years (1947, 1925 and 1920)?have been colder, National Weather Service data show. It’s so cold for Anchorage, the Daily News reported,?that: Cross country ski?practices by the Junior Nordic League have been canceled due to temps dipping below the official cut-off of minus 4 degrees. Tow trucks are so busy helping folks with dead car batteries that it can take up to four hours to get service. Some schools have had only a handful of outdoor recess days this month. AAA Mich.: Gas prices up 9 cents in past week (AP)

DEARBORN, Mich. ? AAA Michigan says gasoline prices are up about 9 cents per gallon during the past week to a statewide average of $3.51.

The auto club said Monday that the average is 35 cents per gallon higher than last year at this time.

Of the cities it surveys, AAA Michigan says the cheapest price for self-serve unleaded fuel is in the Traverse City area, where it’s $3.41 a gallon. The highest average can be found in the Ann Arbor, Benton Harbor and Flint areas at $3.52 to $3.53.

Dearborn-based AAA Michigan surveys 2,800 Michigan gas stations daily.
